The robust and brutal form is a metaphorical expression of the chaos, disorder, and imbalance of this materialistic world. However, the spacious, serene interior with divine light streaming from the roof opening directly contradicts this and gives the impression that there is a spiritual haven beyond this illusory world. Thus it is a transition from this harsh material world to a spiritual space so that the terrestrials ascend and sense their connection to the celestial. This endeavor of architectural translation comprehends the program requirements for a functional Temple and also reveals the core space that emanates an ambiance fostering spiritual emancipation.
GOLPAHAR MOHASHAWSHAN TEMPLE COMPLEX
CHATTOGRAM, 2023
The debate of “mind before matter” or “matter before mind” has been addressed in the redevelopment of “GOLPAHAR MOHASHAWSHAN TEMPLE COMPLEX” located in a tight urban Context of Chattagram city, Bangladesh. Here, in the existing Temple compound, distinct practices of Shakta, Shaiva, and Vaishnava ways are twined together in a single thread; and we have reverently translated that architecturally through our design. These three temples and the ancillary functions are housed in a group of homogenous but distinctly articulated four lofty clustered blocks, which are internally interrelated through converging spaces flowing through the entire complex.
