MONUMENT FOR NAGASAKI PEACE PARK

NAGASAKI PEACE PARK, JAPAN, 2023

In honor of the city's atomic blast on August 9, 1945, Nagasaki Peace Park is a perfect location to convey world peace and unity. Bangladesh had the chance to support and join the rest of the world in the pursuit of peace. So, in our own unique tune of soil and clay, we wish to sing the song of humanity. We discovered our solutions in the ideas, lyrics, morals, and philosophy of "Lalon," a remarkable Bengali philosopher who dreamed of a society free from division and humanity on a global scale.

Lalon mentioned "7 closed doors," which both symbolically and literally stand for a person's negative ideas and body nerves and organs. We can enter these doors to access the "empty space," or "airy space" in Lalon's Japanized terminology. We now attempt to convert this philosophy into architecture. This monument's shape is clearly separated into seven sections to reflect Lalon's seven doorways. Each of these seven plates has an opening, which is visible, and their positions are climbing upward. This ascending ascent is a metaphor for how those figurative doors are being opened more and more. Visitors will get a concept or a goal of obtaining the ultimate freedom when they observe these climbing diagonal openings from the walkway. Here, we're attempting to illustrate how one person's atonement can lead to the salvation of all of humanity. A free world with lasting peace and security can only be ensured by the salvation of all people.
