Age & Edge participated in an international workshop focused on affordable and sustainable construction techniques, exploring the use of locally available and reusable materials alongside traditional building knowledge. The workshop highlighted shallow dome construction, a technique developed through local craftsmanship that can reduce the use of steel and concrete in roofing by 60–80%, as well as innovative approaches to reusing construction and demolition waste for building materials.
Through hands-on learning, material experimentation, and knowledge exchange with mentors and participants from India, Nepal, and beyond, the workshop provided an opportunity to explore resource-efficient construction practices and community-driven innovation. Organized in collaboration with Hunnarshala Foundation, Suvastu Engineering, the School of Design and Architecture at BRAC University, Grambangla Unnayan Committee, Asian Coalition for Housing Rights, Urbamonde, and other partners, the initiative emphasized the importance of strengthening local skills, empowering artisans and communities, and promoting more affordable, resilient, and self-sustaining built environments.
For Age & Edge, participation in this workshop reflects our continued interest in sustainable architecture, alternative building technologies, and context-responsive design that makes responsible use of local resources and knowledge.
